Troubleshooting Video Issues
Video Symptoms
Affected computers will exhibit one or more of the following:
• Scrambled or distorted video
• The system intermittently freezes or crashes
• The system may crash during the boot process with the fans running at full speed
Repair Procedure
1.
Verify that the system is eligible for the REP program. Refer to the topic “Eligible
Products” mentioned earlier in this section.
2.
If the computer is eligible, remove the rear cover on the iMac G5 so that the main logic
board is visible.
3.
Inspect the capacitors (highlighted below) on the logic board, looking for signs of
bulging and/or venting.
