Enabling and Disabling a Port
This procedure allows you to enable or disable a port. A disabled port
does not forward any ingress or egress packets. You may want to disable
a port if a problem occurs with the node or cable connected to the port.
After the problem is fixed, you can enable the port to resume normal
operation. You can also disable an unused port to secure it from
unauthorized connections. The default setting for a port is enabled.
To change the port’s status, perform the following procedure:
1. From the Main Menu, type B to select Basic Configuration.
The Basic Switch Configuration Menu is shown in Figure 4 on page 32
2. From the Basic Switch Configuration Menu, type P to select Port
Configuration.
The Port Configuration Menu is shown in Figure 13 on page 54.
3. Type S to select Set Status.
The following prompt is displayed:
Set Status->Enter port number>
4. Enter the number of the port to enable or disable. You can configure
only one port at a time.
The following prompt is displayed:
Enable or Disable port n (E/D)>
5. Type E to enable the port or D to disable it. The default is enabled. A
disabled port immediately stops forwarding all ingress and egress
traffic until you enable it again.
The display is refreshed to show the port’s new status.
6. Type Q to select Quit to previous menu and save your changes.
