All bar codes require a white space called the quiet zone for
successful scanning. The minimum quiet zone is .10 inches from
the left and right edges of the supply to the printed bars.
◆
You can print a UPC-A bar code rotated 180
o
on 1.2 inch wide
supply, but the quiet zone will be less than the minimum
specification.
◆
Code 39 and Code 128 bar codes accept a space as valid
data. If you are using fixed data for either of these bar codes,
you can use the shift/space key to insert a b/ (reserved space)
in the fixed data.
◆
To print human readable characters for UPC and EAN bar
codes, see "Human Readable Characters."
◆
To print human readable characters for Code 39, Interleaved 2
of 5, NW7, Code 128 and MSI bar codes, you must use a
sub-field. See "S)ub" later in this section.
◆
If you define a subfield as a standard UPC or EAN bar code,
the printer automatically fills the field from the left with zeros
to complete the bar code if necessary. UPC or EAN +2 or +5
bar codes do not automatically fill from the left.
