Chapter 4: Battery Backup Unit and CacheVault Specifications

Battery Life and Data Retention Time

4.3

Battery Life and Data Retention Time

The MegaRAID utilities display a counter showing the number of times a BBU unit has been recharged. When you
replace a BBU unit, you should run the utility program and reset this counter to zero for the new BBU unit.

Avago recommends that you replace the battery pack on the BBU unit once a year or after 500 recharging cycles,
whichever comes first. The warranty on the battery packs is good for one year. The warranty on the CacheVault
modules is three years.

The data retention times shown in the following table are approximate. They can vary based on a number of factors,
including the following factors:

Capacity of the battery pack and the battery load

Ambient temperature

Age of the battery and number of discharge cycles it has been through

Number of DIMMs installed and number of chips on the installed DIMMs

DRAM size

NOTE

Battery temperatures kept above 45 °C greatly reduce the life
expectancy of the battery.
