Chapter 3: Monitoring and Managing Battery Backup Units and
CacheVault Modules
This chapter explains how to monitor and manage the MegaRAID BBU units and the CacheVault modules that are
used with the MegaRAID SAS RAID controllers. Most of the MegaRAID BBU functions, such as battery recharging,
occur automatically.
You can use the following MegaRAID utility programs to monitor and manage the battery status (temperature,
voltage, and so on):
MegaRAID WebBIOS Configuration Utility
Ctrl-R Utility
MegaCLI (command line utility)
Storage Command Line Tool (StorCLI)
MegaRAID Storage Manager® (MSM) Configuration Utility
Human Interface Infrastructure (HII) Configuration Utility)
NOTE
For more information about BBU and CacheVault functions in these
utilities, refer to the MegaRAID SAS Software User Guide, which applies
to 6Gb/s MegaRAID controllers, or the 12Gb/s MegaRAID SAS Software
User Guide for 12Gb/s MegaRAID controllers.
You can use the following MegaRAID utility programs to retrieve status information for CVPM modules that are used
with MegaRAID controllers:
HII Configuration Utility)
StorCLI Utility

Monitoring and Managing BBU Units with the MegaRAID Configuration
Utilities
This section describes how to use the MegaRAID utilities to monitor the condition of installed BBU units and perform
management operations.
3.1.1
Monitoring and Managing BBU Units with the WebBIOS Configuration Utility
The MegaRAID WebBIOS Configuration Utility (CU) configures disk groups and logical drives. Because the WebBIOS
CU resides in the BIOS, it is independent of the operating system. The following subsections document how to
monitor and manage the BBU units using the WebBIOS utility.
