Use the ST arrow keys to select Local, Serial, Ethernet, or Ser+Ethernet , or the W X arrow keys
to select Inband, and then press ENTER. Note the following:
• Selecting Local allows monitor and control (M&C) of the unit only through the front panel.
Local control using the front panel is always available, regardless of which
setting is selected on this menu
• Selecting Serial enables remote EIA‐232/485 or Telnet M&C of the modem.
• Selecting Ethernet enables remote SNMP, Telnet, or Web Server Interface M&C to the
modem.
• Selecting Serial+Ethernet allows all methods of remote access to the modem.
5.2.2.8.1 (CONFIG) Remote Control: Serial or Ser+Ethernet

Note: Character format is not selectable. It is fixed at 8‐N‐1.
If selecting either Serial or Ser+Ethernet remote control, use the W X arrow keys to select
Interface, Address, or (Baudrate). Then:
• Interface – Use the ST arrow keys to select RS‐232, RS‐485‐2W, or RS‐485‐4W.
• Address – Note the following:
o For RS‐232 (aka EIA‐232) – The Address is fixed at 0000 and is not editable.
o For RS‐485‐2W or RS‐485‐4W (aka EIA‐485 2‐Wire or 4‐Wire) – Use the W X arrow
keys to select a digit to edit, and then use the ST arrow keys to change that digit.
Address 0000 is reserved for universal addressing. The permitted address range is
0001 to 9999.
• (Baudrate) – Use the ST arrow keys to select 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, or
57600 baud.
Press ENTER when done.
