Figure 44 - Firmware Update 46% Complete
When the status reaches, 100% wait for the dialog to present an OK button. Press OK to complete the
firmware update. You should now reset your ECU by turning the ignition off then back on. The new
firmware should now be loaded into the ECU. The process is not yet finished.
Check your firmware information again to ensure that the firmware has indeed been updated to the correct
version.
In most circumstances where the firmware is updated the software should also be updated (see Installing
Halwin guide earlier in this chapter for more information on installing Halwin). It is essential that the
firmware being used is being used with the software it was designed for.
Once the firmware has been updated within the ECU and the new version of Halwin loaded onto the
laptop used for tuning the default map from the new software must be loaded into the ECU. This step
enables the new features that the firmware update contains.
Once the default map from the new version of Halwin has been loaded the map that was orginally in the
ECU (this is the map that was saved at the beginning of the firmware update procedure) can be loaded
back into the ECU. A quick summary off this procedure is as follows:
1. Save the current map in the ECU with previous version of Halwin.
2. Install the new version of software Halwin (e.g. Halwin_1.89).
3. Disconnect the 34pin connector of the ECU, or disconnect the ignition modules.
4. Open the new version of Halwin (e.g. Halwin_1.89).
5. Load in the new firmware (E11s2v11B35_H185.BIN).
6. Load in the new default map (default.map).
7. (Located at C:\Program files\Haltech\HalwinV1.89\default.map) (use “defult_e8.map for E8 ECU's)
8. Now load in your previously saved map, from the older version of Halwin into the ECU.
If the firmware update fails, cancel the current firmware update. After cancelling successfully, shut down
the Halwin software and turn off your ECU.
Turn on the ECU, restart the Halwin software and go online. The ECU is now in “boot-mode”, while in this
mode it will not run the engine. To get out of boot-mode attempt to update the firmware once again.
