Exchange 2003 Routing
If your organization uses Exchange as their Mail Transport Agent, it is
recommended to configure an SMTP Connector to route mail messages to the
NET SatisFAXtion SMTP Gateway. Alternate methods (e.g. DNS MX records) will
also work, see
Information needed prior to configuration:
•
The IP Address of the NET SatisFAXtion server. This should be a static IP
address. The fax server should not be using DHCP.
•
Choose an SMTP Domain Name to use to route mail to the fax server. It
should be unique. Choose something that is recognizable as the domain
used by the fax server. A good choice would be your company's normal
email domain with a “fax.” in front of it. For instance fax.company.com.
2.9.2.6.1
Open Exchange System Manager and Review Existing SMTP Connectors
Open the Exchange System Manager and navigate to the Connections folder.
First, the existing SMTP Connectors must be reviewed, and any
*
address space
connectors must be adjusted to have a cost of higher than
1
. This is because
they will conflict with the connector used to route mail to the fax server. If you
have no other SMTP Connectors, proceed to step 2.
Right click on the first existing SMTP Connector, and choose Properties. Go to
the Address Space tab and note what appears in the Address and Cost
columns. If Address is
*
and Cost is
1
then you will need to increase the cost of
that Connector. To do that, click the Modify button and change the Cost to any
other higher number such as
10
.
Repeat this step for all SMTP Connectors you might have.
2.9.2.6.2
Add the SMTP Connector
Open the Microsoft Exchange System Manager and add a new SMTP Connector
by right-clicking on the Connectors folder and clicking New ► SMTP Connector.
2.9.2.6.3
General Tab
Enter a name for this connector. This will only be used for display purposes from
within the Exchange System Manager. It has no impact on functionality.
Select the “Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart
hosts” option. Enter the IP Address of your fax server, enclosed in square
brackets:
[198.107.40.74]
.
