Select the Gateway Notification tab and enter the mail server name or IP
address and the email address of the Fax Server Administrator to be notified of
the Email Gateway service being stopped or started.
2.9.2
SMTP Gateway
The SMTP Gateway is typically used when you have an on-site mail server. The
SMTP gateway functions much like an SMTP email server like Exchange, it has a
specific domain assigned to it, and sends and receives mail using SMTP.
The SMTP Gateway is an additional component that is installed on the same
machine as the NET SatisFAXtion fax server software. It is not installed by
default, see
2.9.2.3 Installing the SMTP Gateway .
Ports: The SMTP Gateway requires the standard SMTP local port 25. If another
port is desired, it can be changed using the
local_port registry value in
4.2.1.25 SMTPPost . Note that it is not recommended that NET SatisFAXtion be
installed on the same machine as another mail server.

How the SMTP Gateway Operates
Outbound: The mail server receives the email from the user and relays it to
the gateway using SMTP. The gateway sends it to the fax server to be faxed, and
when it is complete, the gateway sends a notification back to the sender using
SMTP.
Inbound: When a fax is received and routed to email, the gateway emails it to
the recipient using SMTP.

Mail Server Requirements
The mail server must support SMTP. SSL is not supported by the SMTP gateway.
2.9.2.3 Installing the SMTP Gateway
2.9.2.3.1 Choose a Domain Name
The domain name is used to route mail to the fax server. It must be unique. It is
usually preferable to choose something that is recognizable as used for fax. A
good choice would be your company’s normal email domain with a “fax.” in front
of it. For instance
fax.company.com .
2.9.2.3.2 Install the SMTP Gateway
The installer for the SMTP Gateway can be found on the Launchpad web site. Go
to Start ► Programs ► NET SatisFAXtion ► Launchpad. This will open the
Launchpad in the default web browser. Navigate to Admin Tools ► E-Mail
Gateways ► SMTP Gateway. There you will find a Download SMTP Gateway link.
Click the Download SMTP Gateway link.
