• Enable: You have authority to perform operations for product options and the Set Env. panel.

Only user accounts for which the storage administrator role authority is set to Enable can be
used to set the details on the operation authority for each product option. The operation authority
Enable has been set for the user account of user ID “user.” Also for the user account with the
user ID of “user”, the Modify authority is set for the operations of all product options.

• Disable: You do not have authority to perform operations for product options or operations

involving the Set Env. panel. For the operation authority for each function, the Modify authority
might be set. However, if Disable is set for the authority of the storage administrator role, the
operation authority for each function also will be disabled.

Operation authority for each function: You can set the operation authority for XP Remote Web
Console for functions involving product options. To set the operation authority for functions available
for each user account, set Enable for the authority of the storage administrator role. For each user
account, you can specify one of the following parameters for the operation authority:
• Modify: You can perform the operations by using each function.
• View: You can view the panel for each function. However, you cannot perform the operation.

Important Terms and Concepts

XP Remote Web Console users should be familiar with the following terms and concepts:

Disk controller frame. The arrays have one disk controller frame that controls all data access and
storage operations. Mainframe environments provide up to 255 logical control unit (CU) images
and support 3990-6, 3990-6E, 2105-F20, and 2107 controller emulation types. Open systems
provide up to 64 CU images.

NOTE:

The 3990-3 and 2105-E20 controller emulation types are not supported.

Disk array frame. The disk array frame for the XP arrays contains the storage components (hard
disk drive arrays).

Parity group. A parity group (also called an array group) is a set of hard disk drives that are
treated as one group. For example, a RAID-5 3D+1P parity group consists of four disk drives (3
data and 1 parity). A parity group contains both user data and parity information. The parity in-
formation is used to automatically reconstruct the user data if one of the disk drives in the parity
group becomes unavailable.

LU (logical unit). An LDEV used by open-system hosts is called an LU. The arrays support a maximum
of 1024 LU paths per Fibre Channel port. An open-system LU on a Fibre Channel interface can
be mapped to one or more LDEVs.

LDEV (logical device). The mainframe systems support a maximum of 65,280 LDEVs. An LDEV
used by mainframe hosts can be called a device, a logical volume image (LVI), or a volume.
For open system volumes, the XP12000/XP10000 disk arrays support a maximum of only 16,384
LDEVs. An LDEV used by open-system hosts can be called a device (for example, SCSI disk device
or raw device) or a logical unit (LU or LUN).

IMPORTANT:

This guide contains information about internal disks or LDEVs in an array. Unlike the
XP12000/XP10000 Disk Arrays, the SVS200 does not have internal disks. Therefore, information
about internal disks or LDEVs in an array does not apply to the SVS200.
