Only the storage administrator can configure syslog servers for transferring audit logs or downloading
the syslog information file. The Audit Log Permission for the storage administrator must be set to Enable.
The Audit Log Administrator Role needs to be set to Modify for the user account of that storage
administrator. If the Audit Log Administrator Role is set to View, the storage administrator can only
view the Syslog panel and cannot perform operations using the Syslog panel.
The specifications for the syslog information file are as follows:
•
File type: The syslog information file (syslog.log) is a text file. The file is compressed to the tgz
file when it is downloaded. The default file name is syslogYYYYMMDD.tgz where YYYYMMDD
indicates the date the file is downloaded (YYYY: year, MM: month, DD: day). You can specify
the destination for saving the file and the file name when you download it. The linefeed codes for
the syslog information file are “LF”.
•
Output information: In the syslog information file, the login information file and setting information
file (including the detailed information) are output. For information on reading output to the syslog
information file, contact your HP account support representative.
•
The maximum number of characters in a line: Up to 1,024 one-byte characters are output in a
line.
•
The maximum number of lines that can be saved: Up to 120,000 lines of data can be saved in
the syslog information file.
•
File size: The maximum file size of the syslog information file is 117.3 MB.
•
Behavior when the number of lines of saved data in the syslog information file reaches the max-
imum number: When the maximum number of lines of saved data in the syslog information file is
reached, the file starts to be overwritten from the starting line with new data. This results in the
deletion of old data (wrap around). To confirm whether the maximum number of lines have been
saved in the syslog information file, check the audit log transferred to the syslog servers or output
to the syslog information file.
You can perform syslog operations from the Syslog panel.
