2.3.4.3.2 NetVue Time Harmonization

Figure 2-30 Time Harmonization

The Time Harmonization Application (THA) is part of the baseline NetVue server. The THA helps you
make sure that all NetVue-managed devices are Time Harmonized. As events occur, no time translations
or conversions are necessary.

All CEFD equipment contains a Real-Time Clock (RTC), making it possible to Time Harmonize each
NetVue-managed device through the driver interface.

Time Harmonization occurs through several sources:

User Settings:

On demand – NetVue checks and sets time on all devices whenever you tell it to do so

On schedule – NetVue checks and sets time on all devices on a 12- or 24-hour schedule

Operation:

Time is adjusted only if it falls outside of +/- 2 seconds of the NetVue server’s own time.

Best practice is to set all NetVue servers to Universal Time (UTC). UTC is not affected by
standard and daylight time changes. UTC is best for networks that span multiple time zones.

Reports:

THA generates a success/failure report that shows which devices are keeping time successfully
and which devices are operating outside the +/- 2-second window.
