A.2.2 SLSNMPManager
The SLSNMPManager communicates with devices that act as SNMP agents. The SLSNMPManager:
•
Polls devices by sending SNMP Get messages
•
Sets parameter values on devices by sending SNMP Set messages
•
Receives SNMP traps from devices using the Windows SNMP Trap service
A.2.3 UDP Ports settings
Set up the UDP ports to be used:
•
The device listens for Get and Set messages on the polling port. Specify the polling port in the
Element creation wizard when you create the DMS Element associated with that device.
Default: 161
•
The Windows SNMP Trap service listens for incoming SNMP traps on the snmptrap port.
Specify the snmptrap port in the snmptrap line of this file:
%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\services
Default: 162
A.2.4 SLSNMPAgent
The SLSNMPAgent process communicates with third-party applications that act as SNMP managers.
Examples: HP OpenView, IBM NetCool, etc.
The SLSNMPAgent:
•
Receives SNMP Get and SNMP Set messages
•
Sends out SNMP traps to all external SNMP managers defined in the NetVue System
Set up these UDP ports to be used as follows:
•
The SLSNMPAgent listens for Get and Set messages on this port. Specify the port in the
of the NetVue.xml file.
Default: 161
•
SNMP traps are sent to this port on an external SNMP manager. Specify the port in the
SNMP Managers.xml
file.
Default: 162
