10.4 Redundancy
10.4.1
Set up a pair of redundant NetVue Servers
In a NetVue Cluster, a NetVue Server can link to one redundant, backup NetVue Server. The backup
NetVue Server remains synchronized, but offline. If the primary NetVue Server fails, the backup NetVue
Server takes over, either manually or automatically.
NOTE: NetVue Server is always one-to-one. A backup NetVue Server can only have
one primary NetVue Server.
10.4.1.1
Prepare the two NetVue Servers
You must prepare the two NetVue Servers before you can start the configuration process.
First, make sure you have these:
•
A primary NetVue Server
•
A backup NetVue Server, newly installed
•
A pair of additional IP addresses
10.4.1.1.1 Primary NetVue Server
The primary NetVue Server is a typical NetVue Server. In most cases, this is an existing NetVue Server
that is a member of a NetVue Server Cluster. Additional configuration is not required for this primary
server.
10.4.1.1.2 Backup NetVue Server
The backup NetVue Server must be a newly installed NetVue Server. The DataMiner ID of this NetVue
Server must be identical to the DataMiner ID of the primary NetVue Server. The backup NetVue Server
must not be a member of a NetVue Server cluster.
For information on restoring a NetVue Server database, see Section 8.2.2.4.
10.4.1.1.3 Additional IP Addresses
When you configure NetVue redundancy, you need two additional IP addresses. These IP addresses
become the new, local, fixed IP addresses of the primary NetVue Server.
The existing IP addresses of the primary NetVue Server become virtual IP addresses. The online NetVue
Server, whether primary or backup, uses these virtual IP addresses.
