option. HP recommends booting the destination virtual machine from the application station using the auto
boot option.
The following sections list the special steps required to prepare virtual machines for boot to the Insight Control
server migration Virtual Machine Boot CD.
Microsoft Hyper-V migration
•
Ensure that the virtual machine does not have more than three disks attached.
•
Ensure that the virtual machine has at least 600 MB of memory.
•
Ensure that the network adapter is a legacy network adapter.
•
Ensure that you connect the network adapter to a virtual network switch that is connected to an external
network.
•
Ensure that you attach the virtual disks that you create to an IDE controller.
•
Ensure that you connect the boot virtual disk to the 0th channel of the first IDE controller.
•
Ensure that the Insight Control server migration Virtual Machine Boot CD is attached to one of the
channels of an IDE controller.
•
Ensure that the Insight Control server migration Virtual Machine Boot CD is attached to the virtual boot
disk you create.
Prerequisites for migrating a virtual machine host
If you are trying to migrate a source server with the Microsoft Hyper-V role enabled, perform one of the
following prerequisites on the source server:

Turn off the hypervisor using the following command:
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off
After the migration, you can re-enable the hypervisor using the following command:
bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype auto

Remove the Microsoft Hyper-V role from the source server.
VMware ESX migration
•
Ensure that the virtual machine has at least 600 MB of memory.
•
Ensure that you create the virtual machine by selecting the correct operating system that is being
migrated.
•
Ensure that you create the virtual machine with at least one Flexible Network Adapter.
•
Ensure that you connect the network adapter to a virtual network switch that is connected to an external
network.
•
Ensure that the Insight Control server migration Virtual Machine Boot CD is attached to a Virtual CD-ROM
device.
Citrix XenServer migration
•
Ensure that the virtual machine has at least 600 MB of memory.
•
Ensure that correct operating system for the virtual machine you create is selected.
•
Create the virtual machine with just one virtual network interface that connects to the proper virtual
network.
•
Ensure that the Insight Control server migration Virtual Machine Boot CD is attached to a Virtual CD-ROM
device.
