LU Name Usage
When a TCP Port has been configured to support a ‘User Specified’ resource, then it is
possible to configure the client software to request a specific resource when the initial
connection is made. The LU Name field (this option may be called something else in
some emulators) in the client emulator allows you to enter an alpha-numeric text string.
This string is sent to the server (CNA-8000) during the TN3270 negotiations at connect
time. The CNA-8000 if configured for ‘User Specified’ on the listening port will attempt
to match the passed text string to a resource. Some of the accepted text strings supported
by the CNA-8000 are:
Pool Name (any session from the defined pool could be received)
Host Name (any available session from the defined host circuit could be received)
Host Number (any available session from the defined host circuit could be
received)
Host Number, Session Number (only the specified session from the specified Host
Circuit will be offered)
Host Name, Session Number (only the specified session from the specified Host
Circuit will be offered)
Nickname (only a configured nickname matching that provided by the client will
be accepted, and the configured resource assigned to that nickname will be
provided)
If the requested session does not exist or is currently in use by another device, then the
attempt to connect should be rejected with a message indicating that the resource is not
recognized or is in use.
