TN3270 Client Requirements
The CNA-8000 currently supports TN3270E clients only. That is, only TN3270 clients
that were designed to the RFC 1647 specification. Clients designed to the RFC 2355
should also communicate with the CNA-8000.
SSL encryption is supported by the CNA-8000 but it is not necessary that the clients
support SSL themselves. Each TN3270 client connection can be configured as to whether
SSL encryption will be used or not. Visara also offers a small program called eConduit
that can be used to provide SSL encryption for a PC running a TN3270E client that does
not support SSL encryption natively.
Matching Clients to a Session
TN3270 clients are matched to a session at connection time based on the configuration of
the CNA-8000 and the configuration of the TN3270 client. Each TN3270E client must be
configured for the following options:
Server IP Address
TCP Connection Port
LU Name (optional)
SSL Encryption or No Encryption
Session Mod size (Mod 2, 3, 4, or 5)
EAB (Extended Attribute Buffer) Support, or lack of
IP Address and TCP Port
The server IP address and TCP port configurations, configured on the client, must match
those set on the CNA-8000 to allow the client to communicate with the server. Each
Ethernet interface on the 8000 may be configured to support a different IP address. The
CNA-8000 must also be configured to support TCP listening ports. Generally these ports
are configurable for values of 1024 and above, as well as port 23 (default port for Telnet
clients). Many TCP port values below 1024 may have other predefined assignments, and
their use is not recommended.
