11. With the disconnected cables moved out of the way, raise the front

of the motherboard and gently pull the board forward to clear the
connectors from the rear panel.

12. Place the removed motherboard onto an antistatic surface.

Replacement Procedure

1. Remove the replacement motherboard from its antistatic container.
2. Before installing the replacement motherboard, verify that the

mount holes are in the same location on both boards. The chassis
contains various mounting positions for the motherboard standoffs.
If necessary, standoffs can be removed.

3. Install the motherboard by inserting the connectors located at the

rear into their respective openings and sliding them through. This
will allow the front of the motherboard to move downward to the
standoff mountings.

4. Verify that all standoffs are visible through the motherboard

mounting holes.

5. Install the 9 motherboard mounting screws starting at a mounting

hole in the vicinity of the center of the motherboard but do not
tighten.

6. Once all 9 screws are installed tighten the screws down starting

from the center and work outwards. This will help align the card
slots with the rear card opening on the chassis.

7. Raise the lever on CPU 1 socket.
8. Remove the processor from its antistatic container.
9. Inspect the top of the processor and the bottom of the heat sink for

the proper amount of thermal compound on the two components.
If necessary add more thermal compound sparingly. Use only
enough to ensure a good thermal connection between the two
components.

10. Inspect the pins on the processor for bent or malformed pins.

Straighten carefully if necessary.

11. Reinstall the processor making sure the pin 1 markings are

properly aligned.

12. Close and latch the socket lever.
13. Reinstall the heat sink using the mark you placed on the heat sink

when the processor and the heat sink were separated.

14. Seat the four screws loosely at first, then tighten them down

securely in an X fashion.

15. Refer to the cable/header designator table on the preceding page

and reconnect the cables.

16. Remove the ram sticks from their antistatic container.
17. Install the rams sticks into the sockets provided aligning the socket

and ram keys properly.

18. Install the CPU air shroud (if present) carefully, insuring a proper

fit.
