Chapter 4. Operations Status Interface
Status Panel (ESCON Highlighted)
The Status panel can be viewed as the combination of two frames. The top frame contains
the Visara logo and a number of menu items. In the bottom frame, the diagram on the left
portion of the screen represents the hardware configuration of the CNA-8000 that you are
attached to. The diagram above indicates from left to right, that this CNA-8000 has a
Token Ring card, one SDLC card, an empty slot, and two ESCON interface cards.
Additionally there are two more Ethernet interfaces (these are included on the
motherboard of all CNA-8000 platforms).
The status of each interface is color coded giving an immediate indicator of whether the
interface is working.
Green - indicates that the interface is working as configured, and is in
communication with whatever it is supposed to be.
Yellow - indicates that one or more logical entity that the CNA-8000 is supposed
to communicate with over that interface is not communicating, however at least
one configured logical entity is communicating (a probable indication that the
interface itself is working). It should also be noted that if the network connection
to a switch for either Ethernet or Token Ring is not physically attached, but is
configured to support gateway circuits, a yellow status will also appear. (A
physical LAN attachment is not necessary to support gateway connections to
SDLC serial lines.)
Red - indicates that nothing is communicating over that interface. This could
indicate that the interface has not been activated or is not physically connected.
Gray – indicates that the interface has not been configured.
Blue - displayed in the diagram indicates which adapter(s) are displayed on the
right side of the screen. In this case it is the ESCON interfaces that are displayed.
