Swapping FICON Transceivers
FICON transceivers can be swapped without removing the interface
card. You may need to replace a transceiver if the CNA-8000 is to be
connected to a non-compatible FICON port. FICON interfaces can be
attached to either long wave fiber or short wave fiber, but you must
have a transceiver that is compatible to the fiber cable and to the
transceiver that is being used on the other end of the fiber connection.
Use normal antistatic procedures when handling the transceivers, such
as an antistatic wrist strap.
To remove the transceiver, pull the bail (handle) out and to the left to
release the latch. Gently pull the transceiver out. Be careful not to force
it. After the latch is released, the transceiver slides out easily. The
following diagram shows a dual FICON interface card with one
transceiver partly extracted and the other latched into place.
Insert the new transceiver into the cavity vacated by the transceiver that
was removed, and carefully push it into position. Swing the bail back
into the closed position.
