SSL Encryption

The choice of whether to use SSL encryption or not requires matching the capability
between the client and the CNA-8000 server. Each listening port can be independently
configured to use SSL encryption if desired. If a CNA-8000 port is configured for SSL
encryption, then any client attempting to connect to that port number will be required to
use SSL encryption also. Many of the more advanced TN3270 clients offer SSL
encryption as a check off item in the client’s configuration. The Visara eConduit product
can be installed on any PC to provide SSL encryption independent of the TN3270 client
used.

Screen Mod and EAB Support

The choice of session Mod size and whether to use an EAB (Extended Attribute Buffer)
are dependent upon a couple of things. The host gen ultimately determines what session
Mod is to be used. The screen Mod can be fixed in the gen (such as by defining a 3278-3
for Mod 3) or in the case of using 3270X or 3270 Model X, the gen is leaving the choice
of Mod size up to the user. In this case, the host will query the user device to determine
what screen Mod size is to be used and whether an EAB is supported. The CNA-8000
passes this query to the client in most cases, allowing the client software to determine
which screen Mod will be used and whether extended data streams and EABs are to be
supported.

User Menu Usage

Configuring a TCP Port for ‘Present Menu’ will result in a menu of available resources
being painted on the client’s screen at connection time. The menu includes a list of all
defined session pools. The user can then enter a numeric value representing the pool that
is desired to complete the connection.
