If there is any corruption of data written to the CD(s) during the creation process, the
resulting Recovery CD may not be able to restore your system, so attention should be
taken to using only a quality CD in good condition. Additional care should be taken for
storing the Recovery CD safely so that it will not become damaged.
Using a Recovery CD to Restore Your System
Before starting the recovery process, you should visually inspect the Recovery CD(s) that
you are to be using and if there is any apparent damage, they should probably not be
used. Once the Recovery process is initiated, if the CD is damaged, your platform may
end up in an unusable state. If the Recovery CD creation process created more than one
Recovery CD, ensure that all relevant CDs are present and accounted for.
To start the Recovery process, insert the first Recovery CD into the CD/DVD drive, and
start the boot process. You will see normal boot messages up to the point where the CD is
read. You should next see the word ‘Recovery’ generated on the screen in very large
letters. At some point you will be prompted to continue with the Recovery. You may also
have the option of getting a shell prompt if the current platform has a functioning copy of
Linux already on it. Indicating that you wish to proceed with the Recovery will cause the
Recovery CD to first partition your Hard Drive (which will wipe out anything that is
currently on it), then proceed to restore files contained on the Recovery CD back to the
Hard Drive. If a second Recovery CD was created, you will be prompted when to install
it to complete the process.
Once the recovery process has been completed, you should be able to boot the platform
into operation.
