You can only select contiguous tracks with the lasso.
To select tracks with the lasso, left-click the mouse in the Lasso Selection area
and drag the mouse from left to right over the tracks that you want to select. Only
the tracks that can be completely lassoed will be selected.

To select all elements after the nowline, including the elements where the nowline
is positioned, click the Select Clips From (To) Nowline icon.
To select all elements before the nowline, including the elements where the
nowline is positioned, press CTRL and click the Select Clips From (To) Nowline
icon.
