The Overwrite function adds the media in the timeline, overwriting the media

already included in the timeline from the selected position. In other words, the
media in the timeline will be removed by the duration of the added media.

IMELINE

The portion of media added to the timeline depends on the IN and OUT points, or
on possible new mark IN and mark OUT points defined:

If the user adds a clip element to the timeline without defining a new mark IN

and new mark OUT points in the Player, the clip is added to the timeline from its
IN point to its OUT point.

If the user adds a clip to the timeline after having defined a mark IN and/or a

mark OUT point in the Player, the clip will be added to the timeline from the
mark IN point to the mark OUT point, if both are defined.
If one of both Mark points has not been defined in the Player, the original IN or
OUT point of the clip will be taken into account.

Note

The guardbands of the clip remain available for further editing once the
element has been added to the timeline.

In short, three situations can occur:

By default, the media added with the Insert and Overwrite buttons is placed at

the nowline position when no other Mark points are defined in the timeline.

When a mark IN point is defined in the timeline, the original IN point of the clip

or the new mark IN point is matched to this mark IN in the timeline:

If a mark OUT point is defined in the timeline, the original OUT point of the clip

or the new mark OUT point is matched to this mark OUT in the timeline:

For more information on how and where the media loaded on the Player is added
to a timeline, refer to section ‘Position Applied to the Timeline Element’, on page
80. The Insert and Overwrite functions, and all possible ways to use them, will be

further explained in the chapter 4 ‘Timeline’, on page 36.
