Removing and Installing a Fan
CAUTION:
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You
should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your
product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and
support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered
by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the
product.
1 Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 67.
2 Squeeze the release latches on top of the fan and lift the fan out of the
fan bracket. See Figure 3-12.
NOTICE:
Do not remove more than one fan at a time and do not operate the system
with any fan removed for an extended period of time. Overheating can occur,
resulting in a system shutdown and loss of data.
3 To replace the fan, align the connector on the fan with the fan connector
on the system board and insert the fan into the fan bracket.
The fan will start when it seats into the connector.
4 Close the system. See "Closing the System" on page 68.
