Troubleshooting Your System
13 Perform the following steps:
a
Turn off the system and attached peripherals, and disconnect the
system from its electrical outlet.
b
Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 67.
c
Remove the memory cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling
Shroud" on page 103.
d
Perform step d through step h in step 12 for each memory module
installed.
If the problem persists, see "Getting Help" on page 185.
Troubleshooting a Diskette Drive
Problem

Error message indicates a diskette drive problem.
Action
CAUTION:
Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You
should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your
product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and
support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered
by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the
product.
1 Enter the System Setup program and verify that the diskette drive is
configured correctly. See "Using the System Setup Program" on page 47.
2 Remove the bezel. See "Removing the Bezel" on page 64.
3 Run the appropriate online diagnostic test. See "Using Server
Administrator Diagnostics" on page 173.
4 Turn off the system and attached peripherals, and disconnect the system
from the electrical outlet.
5 Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 67.
6 Ensure that the diskette drive interface cable is securely connected to the
diskette drive and the system board.
7 Ensure that a power cable is properly connected to the drive.
