Calculating Slip Gain, Torque Gain,

and Stator Inductance

For motors not in the pulldown menu, calculate the slip gain, torque gain, and stator
inductance for the motor using the following formulas. FOR THE INFORMATION
NEEDED, USE THE DATA FROM THE MOTOR DATA SHEETS. Most errors occur in
the calculation of the slip gain parameter.

F.1

Slip Gain

Where P_base = Rated Motor Power (W) (1HP = 746W)

W_base = Rated Full Load Speed (rpm)

Pn = Number of Motor Poles (NOT POLE PAIRS)

fo = Rated Motor Frequency (Hz)

K_slip = (rad/Sec Nm)

The above calculation is based on a 2-pole machine. If the motor has more than 2
poles (4, 6, 8 …), reduce the slip gain by a factor of (2/Pn).

After calculating the slip gain, use 80% of the calculated value as a starting point for
the tuning since the motor is not at maximum temperature. The slip gain may need to
be increased if the motor temperature nears maximum.
