Hardware Familiarization Lab
2.1 Foreword
It is important that you understand the hardware of 53MC5000 controller. The controller
is made up of different parts. Some of these parts are mandatory and some are optional.
2.2 Objectives
In this lab we will open the instrument and study its hardware parts. The 53MC5000
controller has the following major parts:
Standard
• Main Board & Power Supply
• Front Display & Ribbon Cable
• Standard Rear Terminal Board
• Case
Optional
• Expansion Chassis & Ribbon Cable
• Expansion Chassis Rear Terminal Board
• Option cards (analog, discrete, communications)
After completing this lab, you should know how to open the instrument and identify the
major parts and optional parts.
2.3 Instructions
1. Remove power from the instrument: The first step in opening the instrument is to
remove power to the instrument.
Failure to remove power may result in serious
personal injury and equipment damage. It is also recommended that you use a
grounded wrist strap to prevent damage to the devices when handling the boards.
• To remove power, you can either switch the source off or remove the power cable
at the back of the instrument.
