7.2.2 Hardware
setup:
We will need the following hardware setup for this lab. This is optional, but for the
purpose of this lab, we will set it up.
Connect a 53MC5000 Controller to the computer’s serial port. Do this by connecting a
communication cable from the front communication port of the controller to the serial port
of the PC. The MicroDCI Communications Services will support up to four serial
communications ports. Communications ports are typically identified as a COM port.
This lab assumes that the instrument is connected to COM1.
Insert the USB or Parallel port hardware security device into the appropriate port on the
PC.
7.2.3 Software
installation:
The following procedure explains how to install Micro-Tools on your computer. Begin by
starting (booting up) your Microsoft Windows operating system.
You need to login as the Administrator or as a user with administrative rights in Windows
before installing Micro-Tools.
Close all applications that are currently running in your computer before starting the
MicroTools setup.
1. Insert the MicroDCI Installation CD into the CD-ROM drive.
In most computers where auto run is enabled, the Micro-DCI Master Setup will start
automatically upon inserting the Micro-DCI CD in the drive and closing the drive. The
