Local port mirroring
Local port mirroring is implemented through a local mirroring group. In local port mirroring, packets
passing through a port (mirroring port) are mirrored to the monitor port located on the same device.

As shown in
, packets of the mirroring port are mirrored to the monitor port for the data
monitoring device to analyze.
The mirroring ports and the monitor port in a local mirroring group can be located on different LPUs of
a same device.
Layer 2 remote port mirroring
Layer 2 remote port mirroring is implemented through the cooperation between a remote source
mirroring group and a remote destination mirroring group as shown in
.

On the network shown in
, a remote source mirroring group is created on the source device
and a remote destination mirroring group is created on the destination device. The source device
copies the packets passing through the mirroring port, broadcasts the packets in the remote probe
VLAN for remote mirroring through the egress port, and transmits the packets to the destination device
