Module name
Specifies the name for the selected multiplexing port.
• The module name can be up to 20 alphanumeric
characters in length.
CH 1 to CH 4
or
CH 5 to CH8
Lists the ports handled by the WEST (OPT A) or the
EAST (OPT B) multiplexing port.
• CH 1 to CH 4 are displayed when the WEST (OPT A)
multiplexing port is selected.
• CH 5 to CH8 are displayed when the EAST
(OPT B) multiplexing port is selected.
Selecting one of the channels displays a menu with
the following two items:
• Port Active
• Port Shutdown
These two selections control whether a GBIC port can
send the traffic it receives from its end node to the
multiplexing port. If you select Port Active, which is
the default, the GBIC port is allowed to send its traffic
through the multiplexing port. If you select Port
Shutdown, then the GBIC port cannot send traffic
through the multiplexing port. This means that any
traffic that the GBIC port receives from the end node
connected to the port is not forwarded to the
multiplexing port and, consequently, will not reach
the remote multiplexer and remote end node.
It is important to note that this selection is different
from the Port Shutdown selection explained in the
section GBIC Module Parameter Settings on page
48. That Port Shutdown function controls the flow of
data in the opposite direction. It disables the laser on
a GBIC module so that it cannot forward traffic to its
local end node. However, it does not stop a GBIC
module from receiving traffic from its local end node
and forwarding the traffic to the multiplexing port
and, ultimately, to the remote multiplexer and remote
end node.
Another way to look at this is to consider the two
directions of data flow that occur through the GBIC
port. One data flow is from the end node, to the GBIC
module, and then to the multiplexing port. This flow
is controlled with this shutdown option. The other
data flow is in the opposite direction: from the
multiplexing port, to the GBIC module, and to the end
node. That flow direction is controlled with the other
shutdown selection described in GBIC Module
Parameter Settings on page 48.
