SET REMOTE PORT
Syntax
set remote port=port|all mode=active|shutdown
Parameters
port
Specifies a GBIC port. You can specify more than
one GBIC port at a time. You can specify the ports
individually (e.g., 2,3,5), as a range (e.g., 6-8), or
both (e.g., 1,3,6-8). To specify all ports, use ALL.
Note
You can only specify up to port number 8; an error message will be
displayed if you attempt to specify port number 9 and above.
mode
Determines whether the GBIC port can send traffic
through the multiplexing port. Options are:
❑
active - The GBIC port can send traffic through
the multiplexing port. This is the default
setting.
❑
shutdown - The GBIC port cannot send traffic
through the multiplexing port.
Description
This command stops a GBIC port from sending traffic through the
multiplexing port. This means that any traffic that the GBIC port receives
from the end node connected to the port is not forwarded to the
multiplexing port and, consequently, will not reach the remote
multiplexer and remote end node.
This command can be used in combination with the SET LOCAL PORT
command, which controls the flow in the opposite direction. It disables a
GBIC’s laser so that it cannot transmit data to its end node.
Another way to look at these commands is to consider the two
directions of data flow that occur through the GBIC port. One data flow is
from the end node, to the GBIC module, and then to the multiplexing
port. The other flow is in the opposite direction: from the multiplexing
port, to the GBIC module, and to the end node. This command affects
the former, but not the latter. It does not affect the ability of a GBIC port
to receive traffic from the multiplexing port and to transmit the traffic to
its end node.
