If you need a longer cable or the environment is electrically noisy, use fiber optics
Ethernet with media converters (Figure 12.5).

12.1.2 Connecting the Ethernet cable
To connect the Ethernet cable to the DTR, open the DTR’s enclosure cover, loosen
the front panel screw and open the front panel. The Ethernet connector is behind
the front panel, see Figure 12.6. Plug one end of an appropriate Ethernet cable
into the connector. Plug the other end into your PC/LAN socket/hub/switch/ac-
cess point.
Warning! While it is possible to connect and disconnect the Ethernet cable when
the DTR is powered on, for your safety we recommend that you turn off the power
(by using the external power switch) before opening the DTR’s front panel.
