Release Activation and Feature Licenses

The AT-SBx31CFC960 Card uses two types of software licenses:

Release activation licenses

Feature licenses

A release activation license applies to the AlliedWareNSP management
software on the controller card and unlocks the features of the controller
and Ethernet line cards. Without a license, the controller and line cards still
forward network traffic, but many features remain locked and are not
functional. Here are the general guidelines to release activation licenses:

Factory-shipped controller cards do not need release activation
licenses because their AlliedWareNSP management software are
already activated.

New release activation licenses are not required for minor releases
of the management software. For instance, a controller card would
not need a new license if you upgraded the management software
from 6.18.0 to 6.18.1.

Major releases, such as from version 6.18.0 to 6.19.0, do require
new release activation licenses for the controller card.

When there are two controller cards in a chassis, each card must
have its own license.

Ethernet line cards do not have release activation licenses.

Some features on the switch may have their own separate licenses. The
features are locked and cannot be configured until the appropriate
licenses are installed on the controller cards.

Release activation and feature licenses are available from the Allied
Telesis web site. For further information, refer to the Software Reference
for SwitchBlade x3100 Series Switches
