DNS Composites

A composite is a strictly defined set of subsystem objects that must match the
specifications of a composite type that has previously been defined to DNS. For
example, if a composite type consists of one SNAX LU and one Pathway terminal, all
composites of that type must contain exactly one SNAX LU and one Pathway terminal.
The components of a composite must belong to subsystems that DSNM supports and
must be a type that is supported by DSNM.

When you use a composite name as the object of a command, the command applies to
all components of the composite unless you use qualifiers to restrict the command to
selected components.

All Components of a

Composite

To specify all components of a composite, specify the composite name. For example, if
TELLER-TERM is a composite type that consists of one SNAX LU and one Pathway
terminal, and BERLIN-TLR-4 is a composite of type TELLER-TERM, you can start both
components by entering the following command:

START BERLIN-TLR-4

DSNM resolves the composite into its component object names and applies the
command to all objects in the composite.

Selected Components of a

Composite

To restrict the command to selected components of the composite, use the composite
name with the appropriate qualifiers. Following is the syntax for applying qualifiers
to a composite name.

[

subsys] [type] [\node.]composite

[UNDER [

\node.]$manager] [hierarchy-modifier]

Examples

Suppose that TELLER-TERM is a composite type consisting of one SNAX LU and one
Pathway terminal, and BERLIN-TLR-4 is a composite of type TELLER-TERM. You can
stop the terminal component of BERLIN-TLR-4 by entering:

STOP TERM BERLIN-TLR-4

The command would stop the Pathway terminal, but would not affect the SNAX LU in
the composite.

Qualifiers restrict the command to the components of the composite that meet all the
qualifications. For example, there is no output from the following command:

STOP LINE BERLIN-TLR-4

DSNM would not stop anything because there is no line component in a
TELLER-TERM composite.
