When used with NonStop NET/MASTER MS, DSNM includes a process known as the
automation I process. The process enables DSNM to provide control and limited
information retrieval capabilities for some data communications subsystems that
DSNM does not ordinarily manage. Section 1, “Introduction,” discusses the support
for these subsystems. Instructions for configuring the automation I process appear in
the Distributed Systems Management Solutions (DSMS) System Management Guide.
Note
The phrase “supported Tandem data communications subsystems” refers to those subsystems that have
been developed according to Tandem programming guidelines and is described in more detail in Section
1 of this manual.
The way errors are reported depends on the subsystem:
If the subsystem does not support a command for a particular object, DSNM
generally returns a -35 Subsystem Error.
If the subsystem does not support a particular command modifier, the resulting
action depends on the subsystem. Generally, the unsupported command modifier
is ignored.
Caution
Be aware that undesired results can occur. For example, the TCP/IP subsystem does not support the
SUBONLY hierarchy modifier. If a user issues an ABORT TCPIP PROCESS $ZTC0,SUBONLY, the
SUBONLY modifier is ignored; not only are all the associated subnets and routes stopped, but the
process itself is terminated.
Object Types
Object types must be one of the standard Tandem data communications subsystem
object types listed in the Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI) Common Extensions
Manual.
Object types whose name definition is greater than eight characters must be
abbreviated according to Table 5-19.
