Specifying Objects by Alias
An alias is a name that can be used as a synonym for the object’s fully qualified
subsystem object name. An alias is defined in the DNS database.
For example, assume BERLIN-ATM-CLSTR is an alias for the SNAX PU whose object
name is \BERLIN.$SATM.#ATMCC. You could start the PU by specifying:
START PU \BERLIN.$SATM.#ATMCC
You could also start the PU by specifying its alias:
START BERLIN-ATM-CLSTR
Examples
The examples that follow show different types of subsystem object name and alias
specifications.
The following fully qualified name identifies the Expand line $LHUK on the node
\PARIS:
EXPAND LINE \PARIS.$LHUK
The following object name identifies a Pathway TCP named TCP2 that is controlled by
the Pathway manager process $PMD. $PMD is defined on node \BERLIN. The object
type is required because without it, DSNM would assume that TCP2 is a terminal.
TCP TCP2 UNDER \BERLIN.$PMD
The following object name identifies the SNAX LU #ATM5 on line $SATM. The object
type is not required because DSNM assumes that #ATM5 is an LU. $SATM is defined
on the local node.
SNAX $SATM.#ATM5
The following alias identifies a Pathway terminal:
UKPWT1
