Logical names in commands. The user may specify operations on object aliases or
object groups, as well as the objects themselves.

Routing and transport for commands, responses, and monitoring operations to
objects located anywhere in the network.

The communication components of DSNM enable management applications to
monitor and control resources on remote nodes as well. DSNM provides resolution
and routing services that work with the Subsystem Programmatic Interface (SPI),
Distributed Name Service (DNS), and Event Management Service (EMS) components
of Distributed System Management (DSM).

Subsystems

A subsystem is a cohesive set of processes that perform related services. For example,
the Tandem services that perform data communications using SNA protocols are
collectively called the SNAX/XF subsystem. The SNAX/XF subsystem consists of
SNAX objects—lines, PUs, and LUs. By starting, stopping, and monitoring these
SNAX objects, you can manage the services that the SNAX/XF subsystem provides.

Operations staff use DSNM to manage many Tandem subsystems. Tandem data
communications subsystems for which DSNM provides default support are:

In a NonStop NET/MASTER MS operations environment, DSNM provides default
support for the following additional Tandem data communications subsystems:

MULTILAN

SNAX/HLS

TCP/IP

Finally, in a NonStop NET/MASTER MS operations environment, you can customize
DSNM to support any other Tandem data communications subsystem that complies
with Tandem data communications subsystem programming standards. Tandem data
communications subsystems that can be configured for DSNM support in a NonStop
NET/MASTER MS operations environment include:
