STATUS Command
DSNM Commands
098571 Tandem Computers Incorporated
2–29
is not available, ERROR-BRIEF and ERROR-DETAIL result
in the same response.
ERROR-SUPPRESS
suppresses any response from objects that produce errors.
This option is normally used when it is known in advance
that objects will produce errors and the response is not
desired.
If you do not specify a value for the error modifier, it defaults to ERROR-BRIEF.
state-modifier
restricts the scope of the command to a subset of the specified objects, depending
on their states:
UP
restricts the command to the specified objects that are up.
NOT-UP
restricts the command to the specified objects that are either
down or pending.
DOWN
restricts the command to the specified objects that are down.
NOT-DOWN
restricts the command to the specified objects that are either
up or pending.
If you do not specify a value for the state modifier, DSNM applies the command to
all objects that match your object specification, regardless of their states. For
detailed information on the state modifier, see Section 4, “Modifiers.”
response-modifier
determines how much status information is returned, and how it is formatted.
BRIEF
returns one line of information for each object.
DETAIL
returns one line of information on each object, plus
detailed information from each object’s subsystem.
SUMMARY
returns the number of objects in each state.
SUMMARY-BYOBJECT returns the number of objects in each state, listed by
object.
SUMMARY-BYTYPE
returns the number of objects in each state, listed by
object type.
For detailed information on the response modifier, see Section 4, “Modifiers.”
Considerations
Because the STATUS command obtains status information from the subsystems
directly, it produces more up-to-date information than the INQUIRE command.
However, because the INQUIRE command obtains status information from the object
database, it has a faster response time than the STATUS command. This is especially
noticeable in large networks. You must take your immediate needs into account
when choosing between the INQUIRE and STATUS commands.
