Notes on judging the positioning behaviour
Resonance effects can lead with stepping motor axes to step
losses and/or uncontrolled positioning behaviour. DeterĆ
mined by their principle 2−phase stepping motors are more
susceptible to resonance effects than 3− or 5−phase stepping
motors.
The following table contains notes on judging the positioning
behaviour as well as on the possible remedy.
Effect
Possible cause
Possible remedy
Actual position moves" with
positioning in both directions
Loss of steps by resonance efĆ
fects
S Increase acceleration
S Increase start−stop frequency
S Speed FX.. (FY.., FZ.., FU..) on
positioning with G01 is set too
low, increase
S Reduce motor current
S Increase maximum speed or refĆ
Motor runs "roughly" and/or
produces untypical noises
Drive operates in the range of
the resonance
S Increase maximum speed or refĆ
erence speed factor
S With 2−phase stepping motors:
increase resolution, that means
operate the motor with step
mode 1/2 or 1/4 instead of 1/1
(note that torque will be reĆ
duced)
