Syslog
The Syslog messaging system enables the AP to transmit event messages to a central server for monitoring and troubleshooting. The AP can
send messages to one Syslog server (it cannot send messages to more than one Syslog server). The access point logs “Session Start
(Log-in)” and “Session Stop (Log-out)” events for each wireless client as an alternative to RADIUS accounting.
See RFC 3164 at
for more information on the Syslog standard.

Setting Syslog Event Notifications
Syslog Events are logged according to the level of detail specified by the administrator. Logging only urgent system messages will create a far
smaller, more easily read log then a log of every event the system encounters. Determine which events to log by selecting a priority defined
by the following scale:
Configuring Syslog Event Notifications
You can configure the following Syslog settings from the HTTP interface:
•
Enable Syslog: Place a check mark in the box provided to enable system logging.
•
Syslog Port Number: This field is read-only and displays the port number (514) assigned for system logging.
•
Syslog Lowest Priority Logged: The AP will send event messages to the Syslog server that correspond to the selected priority and
above. For example, if set to 6, the AP will transmit event messages labeled priority 0 to 6 to the Syslog server(s). This parameter
supports a range between 1 and 7; 6 is the default.
•
Syslog Heartbeat Status: When Heartbeat is enabled, the AP periodically sends a message to the Syslog server to indicate that it is
active.
•
Syslog Heartbeat Interval: If Syslog Heartbeat Status is enabled this field provides the interval for the heartbeat in seconds. The default
is 900 seconds.
•
Syslog Host Table: This table specifies the IP addresses of a network servers that the AP will send Syslog messages to. Click Add to
create a new entry. Click Edit to change an existing entry. Each entry contains the following field:
–
IP Address: Enter the IP Address for the management host.
