3.1 Unpacking and Inspection
This equipment contains parts and assemblies sensitive to damage by
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Use ESD precautionary procedures when
handling the equipment.
Once opened, inspect the shipment:

Keep all shipping materials for storage or reshipment.

Check the packing lists to ensure the shipments are complete.

Inspect the equipment for any possible damage incurred during shipment. Contact the carrier
and Comtech EF Data immediately to submit a damage report if damage is evident.

Review the Installation and Operation Manual carefully to become familiar with
operation.

3.2 Rack Mounting the CRS-500 1:N Redundancy System
Figure 3-1 shows an example of a complete CRS-500 1:N Redundancy System rack configuration.
The CRS-500 Control Switch Unit (CSU) is constructed as a 1RU-high, rack-mounting chassis that
may also be free standing. Rack handles are provided to facilitate removal and placement into a
rack. Install the CSU, using the front panel mounting holes only, into the front of the rack.
The CRS-500 Data Switch Unit (DSU) mounts into the back or on top of the rack in one of four
configurations. As shown in Figure 3-2 and Figure 3-3, the user can use the KT-0000072 CRS-500
DSU Rack Mounting Kit (Figure 3-4) to install the DSU module as needed, positioning or hinging
