If you checked the “Yellow Dot” box on page 28 while inspecting the KIO3 Audio Board, do the
following. Otherwise skip this step and proceed to Synthesizer Calibration below. The headphone jack on the
KIO3 Audio Board uses an inverted speaker cut-off logic that prevents speaker audio with the default firmware
setting. Change the firmware setting as follows:
Hold the
C O N F I G
switch at least 1/2 second to bring up the configuration menu on the LCD.
Rotate the VFO B knob (the knob marked to the right of the main tuning knob) until
SPKR+PH
appears in the lower right area of the LCD.
Tap the
1
switch on the numeric keypad to the right of the LCD until you see
PH.R SW
followed by a + sign.
Tap the
1
switch again and note that the sign changes to ̶ , indicating it is set for the inverted
logic. This is a toggle; if you tap the
1
switch again the sign will change back to +. Be sure the
sign is ̶ for KIO3 Audio boards with a yellow dot.
Tap the
M E N U
switch to exit the configuration menu and confirm that you have noise in the
loudspeaker when the
AF GAIN
knob is rotated clockwise.
Synthesizer Calibration
Hold
C O N F I G
to access the configuration menu, then rotate VFO B to display TECH MD. Set the TECH
MD parameter to ON with VFO A.
Refer to the Calibration Procedures in you Owner’s Manual and perform the Synthesizer calibration.
When the calibration process is completed, press the BAND switch to cycle through all the bands from 160
meters through 6 meters and verify that there are no CAL PLL error messages on the display. That indicates that
the synthesizer is calibrated on all the bands.
