remote copy connections.
The Continuous Access XP Journal remote copy configuration between the primary and secondary arrays
has the following requirements (see ”
•
Continuous Access XP Journal supports a 1-to-1 remote copy connection in one journal group pair. In
one journal group pair, one primary array can be connected to only one secondary array. This
configuration ensures the backup data consistency of two or more volumes (for example, large
databases) within the same array.
NOTE:
HP strongly recommends establishing at least two independent remote copy connections from the
primary array to the secondary array and vice versa to provide hardware redundancy for this critical
communications path.
Initiator and RCU target ports
Initiator and RCU target ports are required at the primary and secondary arrays. The initiator port at the
primary array is connected to the RCU target port at the secondary array through a Fibre Channel
interface. The initiator port at the secondary array is connected to the RCU target port at the primary
array. The initiator port at the secondary array issues a read journal command to the primary array. In
response to the read journal command, the RCU target port at the primary array sends journal data to the
secondary array.
You can configure any Fibre Channel interface port on the local array as an initiator port. Initiator ports
cannot communicate with host processor channels. Host channel paths must be connected to a Fibre
Channel interface port other than the initiator port.
NOTE:
Two or more initiator ports must be configured before you can add secondary arrays and create
Continuous Access XP Journal volume pairs.
You can connect Fibre Channel interface ports assigned as RCU target ports to host channel paths
through a Fibre Channel switch.
See ”
” on page 85 for more information about configuring host interface ports.
Continuous Access XP Journal Graphical User Interface
The Command View XP or XP Remote Web Console Java® applet program product includes Continuous
Access XP Journal for the local array. The Command View XP or XP Remote Web Console software
communicates with each local array’s SVP through defined TCP/IP connections. For more information
about Command View XP or XP Remote Web Console operations, see the HP StorageWorks Command
View XP user guide for XP Disk Arrays or the HP StorageWorks XP Remote Web Console user guide for
XP12000/XP10000/SVS200 or contact your HP account support representative.
For Command View XP, the management station at the primary site must be attached to the primary array.
You should also attach a Command View XP management station at the secondary site to all secondary
arrays. You can use the Command View XP management station at the secondary site to change the
secondary array’s Continuous Access XP Journal parameters and access the Continuous Access XP
Journal secondary data volume (for example, for media maintenance). To perform Continuous Access XP
Journal operations in the reverse direction from the remote site to the primary site (for example, disaster
recovery), Command View XP or XP Remote Web Console simplifies and expedites this process.
NOTE:
If the Command View XP management station is not installed, contact your HP account support
representative for information about Continuous Access XP Journal configuration services.
