Overview of SNMP Agent Properties
CAUTION:
Before setting SNMP Agent properties, be sure that both the Hitachi SNMP API and the Microsoft SNMP
agent are installed on the array's SVP to allow the SNMP agent to run as a daemon program.
The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an industry-standard method for storage and
communication devices. It is used to transfer status and management commands across TCP/IP networks.
The SNMP agent (SNMP) performs error-reporting operations requested by the SNMP manager for the
array(s). SNMP properties are usually set from the SVP, but you can also set the SNMP properties
for the connected arrays using the XP Remote Web Console. For a flowchart of the array's SNMP
environment, see Figure 92 .
The SNMP IP Security pane is not available to storage partition administrators. A storage administrator
can perform the following SNMP functions using the XP Remote Web Console:
• Register the SNMP system group information (Name, Contact, Location) (see this section)
• Add and delete SNMP Manager IP addresses (see
“ Adding SNMP Manager IP Addresses ” on page 134 and
“ Deleting SNMP Manager IP Addresses ” on page 135)
• Add, delete, and change communities (see “ Adding A Community Name ” on page 136,
“ Deleting a Community Name ” on page 137, and “ Changing a Community Name ” on page 138)
• Add, delete, and change IP addresses of communities
(see “ Adding Community IP Addresses ” on page 139 and
“ Deleting a Community IP Address ” on page 140)
NOTE:
To set the SNMP properties, you must register the SNMP system group information including the device
name, contact information, and location of the array to be managed in XP Remote Web Console's main
pane (Identity pane) (see Figure 44 ).
