3.
Wait until the Continuous Access XP Synchronous S-VOL in the intermediate site is suspended (in
SSWS status) or changed to a Continuous Access XP Synchronous P-VOL.
After the S-VOL is suspended or changed to a P-VOL, you can use the volume to resume your
business tasks.
For more information about using RAID Manager XP, see the HP StorageWorks RAID Manager XP
user guide.
When a disaster or failure occurs, this procedure enables you to resume your business tasks using
the Continuous Access XP Synchronous volume at the intermediate site. The Continuous Access XP
Synchronous volume at the intermediate site contains the same data that is stored in the Continuous
Access XP Synchronous P-VOL at the primary site.

Combining CA XP Journal with CA XP Synchronous (3DC multi-target
configuration)
The local array can combine Continuous Access XP Journal and Continuous Access XP Synchronous. In
a system where Continuous Access XP Journal and Continuous Access XP Synchronous are combined,
there are one primary and two secondary sites. One secondary site is for synchronous remote copy, and
is usually located a short distance from the primary site. The other secondary site is for asynchronous
remote copy, and is usually located a long distance from the primary site. This system configuration is
called a three data center (3DC) multi-target configuration.
A 3DC multi-target configuration provides a solution for disaster recovery and business continuity. Even
when a disaster or failure occurs at two sites at the same time, you can restart your business tasks using
data in the remaining secondary site.
illustrates a 3DC multi-target configuration where Continuous Access XP Journal and Continuous
Access XP Synchronous are combined. This configuration consists of the following sites:
•
Primary site for Continuous Access XP Synchronous and Continuous Access XP Journal (DC1 -
data center 1)
•
Secondary site for Continuous Access XP Synchronous (DC2- data center 2)
•
Secondary site for Continuous Access XP Journal (DC3- data center 3)

In this configuration, the primary volume at the primary site is paired with the secondary volume for
Continuous Access XP Synchronous. This primary volume is also paired with the secondary volume for
Continuous Access XP Journal. If a host at the primary site writes data to the primary volume, the data
is written to the Continuous Access XP Synchronous secondary volume in real time, synchronously with
regards to writing from the host. The data is also written to the Continuous Access XP Journal secondary
