Link Failure

A link failure occurs when a server or storage is connected to a switch, but the link
between the server/storage and the switch does not come up. This prevents the
server/storage from communicating through the switch.

Possible Causes for Link Failure

If the

switchshow

command and/or the LED lights indicate that the link has

not come up properly, follow the steps for one or more of the areas indicated
below.

A link failure can be caused by one of the following reasons:

Switch State

1. Enter the

switchshow

command.

2. Check the switchState entry in the

switchshow

command output.

3. Use the following list of switch states to determine the next step:

Online

The state of the switch is ok. Move on to check

Offline

Enable the switch by entering the switchenable

command.

Testing

Wait for the switch to complete its test.

Faulty

Check the condition of the switch. Enter the

switchStatusShow

and

errShow

or

errDump

commands and identify the

malfunctioning parts. Refer to the
