How the FrameScope Pro Tests Voice Quality
You can use the FrameScope Pro VoIP test feature to test the
voice quality and measure audio circuit characteristics as
follows.
•
The FrameScope Pro VoIP test feature places and answers
one telephone call at a time to establish a voice connection.
This voice connection (including the transmission media and
equipment of which it is a part of) becomes the
network- under- test
. The FrameScope Pro VoIP works like a
telephone or other telephony device positioned at the ends of
voice circuits.
•
Once the FrameScope Pro VoIP test feature has established a
call, it transmits audio RTP packets into the network and
measures the effect of the transmitted packets when they
travel through the network-under-test.
Test Port Settings
The FrameScope Pro VoIP Service Quality Testing feature can
connect to the network using Point-to-Point-Protocol Over
Ethernet (PPPoE) or IP Over Ethernet (IPoE). These settings are
available in the Test Port Settings screen, as described in
, “Test Port Settings” on page 171.
Audio Codec Support
For measurement results which resemble the end-user
experience when testing a VoIP service, you need to use the
appropriate codec. The FrameScope Pro supports the following
codecs.
