Software/Firmware Versions
There are three different pieces of software and firmware used in a
Mp3-50, Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40:
Mp3 Configurator: This program lives on your PC. It can be easily up-
dated by replacing the program on your PC. You should only use
a Mp3 Configurator which has the same revision number as the
Mp3 Player Firmware. The software revision number is found
under the ‘Help’ pulldown under the ‘about’:
Mp3 Player Firmware: This resides on the SmartMedia card along
with your Mp3 files. It is cleverly hidden, but it is there. You should
only use a configurator which has the same revision number as
the Mp3 Configurator. To determine the revision of this firmware,
plug the player into the USB port on your computer (the software
must have been previously installed on your PC) and run the Mp3
Updater It is found under the ‘Start’ button ‘Programs/SigmaTel
StMp3400 Mp3 Player/StMp3Update’. The current firmware revi-
sion number on your computer, and that on the Mp3-50, Mp3-
50/8 or Mp3-50/40 will be shown. If your computer has a more
up-to-date version, the card should be updated to bring it into
line with the Mp3 Configurator program.
Show Control Firmware: This is the least likely to need updating. It
resides in a socketed microcontroller on the Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-
50/40. The player will need to be returned to the factory for up-
dating this chip, or we can send a revised firmware chip which
can be swapped out in the field. The revision number of this
firmware is shown at the top of all of the configuration screens
accessed through the serial port of the Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40.
