Mp3-50, Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40 Software Installation
There are three pieces of software that you will need to install on your
computer to use the Mp3-50, Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40. These are:
1) ‘StMp3Format.exe’: This is used to format the SmartMedia card
through the USB port. After installation, this ends up in ‘c:/Program
Files/SigmaTel/STMp3400’. A shortcut can be found under the
‘Start’ button under ‘Programs/SigmaTel StMp3400 Mp3
Player/StMp3Format’.
2) ‘StMp3Update.exe’:This program is used to send the firmware to
the SmartMedia card that the Mp3-50, Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40
needs to operate. After installation, this ends up in ‘c:/Program
Files/SigmaTel/STMp3400’. A shortcut can be found under the
‘Start’ button under ‘Programs/SigmaTel StMp3400 Mp3
Player/StMp3Update’.
3) ‘Mp3 Config.exe’: This is the Gilderfluke Program that you will use
the most. It is used to configure what all the trigger inputs do on
the Mp3-player, what the volume levels are, and all the other set-
tings for the Mp3-50, Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40.
The software for the Mp3 half of the Mp3-50, Mp3-50/8 or Mp3-50/40
is distributed from Gilderfluke & Company on CD-ROM, or can be down-
loaded or emailed to you. If you download it or get it via email, it will proba-
bly be zipped, and you will need to decompress it before it can be installed.
In any case, you will end up with a folder called ‘Gilder Mp3 Installer’ some-
where on your computer.
If you need to decompress the installer, it will be in a file called ‘Gilder
Mp3 Installer.zip’. To decompress any zip files you will need to have software
to decompress .zip files already installed on your computer (PkZip or WinZip).
It comes with most versions of Windows, so it is probably already installed. If
you do not have any decompressor software, it can be downloaded from
‘http://www.pkware.com’ or ‘http://www.winzip.com’. You do not need to use
the versions that they charge for. Just download the ‘free’ version of the
software.
1) It Double click on the ‘Gilder Mp3 Installer.zip’ file.
2) Press the ‘Install’ button if you have one. This will decompress and
install the software. If you don’t see an ‘Install’ button, press the
‘Unzip’ button.
3) Direct it to store the decompressed files somewhere on your com-
puter. usually the easiest thing to do is direct it to the ‘desktop’.
4) Make sure that it is set to extract ‘all files’ and ‘Use Folder names’
5) Press ‘Extract’ again to start it unzipping.
